Caring for your handmade crochet

Gentle washing

• Hand-wash in cool water with a small amount of mild soap.
• Squeeze suds through softly — never scrub, twist or wring.
• For plushies with stuffing, spot-clean the surface where possible instead of soaking.
• Rinse in clean cool water until the water runs clear.

Drying & reshaping

• Press water out between two clean towels — no hanging, which stretches stitches.
• Reshape while damp: plump up plushies, smooth beanies flat, re-twirl any curls.
• Dry flat, away from radiators and direct sunlight.
• Give thick pieces a turn halfway through so both sides dry evenly.

Storage

• Fold and store flat — hanging stretches crochet fabric out of shape.
• Choose a dry spot out of strong sunlight so colors stay true.
• A breathable cotton bag is perfect for seasonal storage.
• Storing long-term? Tuck in a cedar block or lavender sachet, as you would for knitwear.

Snag protection

• Keep crochet away from velcro, rough zips and sharp jewelry.
• If a loop pulls out, don't cut it! Ease it back through with a blunt needle, or ask Leah for help.
• Trim pet claws before serious cuddle sessions with plushies.

Piece-by-piece notes

• Plushies: surface wash only where possible; stuffing prefers to stay dry.
• Beanies: dry flat with ears propped up so they keep their posture.
• Coasters & cosies: these are workhorses — wash gently and they bounce back.
• Bouquets: no washing needed — just an occasional gentle dusting.
